One of the major outreach areas for St. James is the St. James Family Center. We provide preschool and day care services, as well as assisting parents via family visits and classes on parenting, which are available to all. We also operate the Charlotte House, the domestic violence shelter in Wahkiakum County, which is sited off-campus in downtown Cathlamet. The child care center and preschool focuses on problem solving, decision making and self-help, while promoting interpersonal communications. Preschool also helps children prepare for entry into Kindergarten. These are key elements which contribute to children’s development, self-esteem and confidence.
